Dear Families,
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there programs to help support paying for Extended Learning (after-school) programs?
Eligible students can benefit from no-cost or reduced-cost programs through state grants/funding.
ELOP: All of our K-8 school sites provide extended learning (after-school, intersession, and summer enrichment programs) in which qualifying TK-6th grade students may receive the program at no cost or reduced cost through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) and ASES* (After School Education and Safety).
*North Fork School Only
Note that 7th and 8th-grade students are not eligible for funding through ELOP but may qualify ***
How do I know if my child(ren) qualifies for extended learning at no cost or reduced cost?
ELOP funding provides no-cost extended learning programming for TK-6th grade students who are foster youth, experiencing homelessness, or who are low-income students. TK-6th grade students who are English learners may qualify for tuition fees on a sliding scale, dependent on income.
Who provides Extended Learning (after school) programs in Chawanakee Unified?
Chawanakee Unified partners with California Teaching Fellows.
Can I go directly to one of the Extended Learning partners and enroll my child?
No, all families must complete the Chawanakee Unified Interest Application first.
Is there priority enrollment for the Extended Learning (afterschool) program?
Following the ELOP state mandate, students who qualify under ASES/ELOP guidelines will be given priority enrollment. Students will be enrolled in the following order:
- Priority 1: TK-6th grade students experiencing homelessness, foster youth, or low income (program provided at No Cost).
- Priority 2: TK-6th grade English Learners (families may qualify for tuition fees on a sliding scale, dependent on income).
- Priority 3: TK-6th grade students interested in a fee-based program. Priority order in this category is determined by the date of application submitted.
- Priority 4: 7th-8th grade students interested in a fee-based program. Priority order in this category is determined by total enrollment in all other Priority groups.
How do I know if my child qualifies for ASES /ELOP funding?
To assess preliminary qualification for ELOP and/or ASES grant funding, information about family size and income is required in the interest application as an initial step. Official eligibility for low-income status in the 2025-2026 school year will be determined through free/reduced meal applications, available in late July 2025 at the school office. For now, please complete the Interest Application Survey in advance.
Pricing for families who do not qualify for Priority 1 or 2:
Summer session: $140 for both weeks.
Afterschool monthly bill will be between $150-$200 per student (final price to be determined by August 8th). No drop-in rate will be offered.
All fees to be paid in the school front office by check.
