Message from Superintendent - May 25, 2022
Dear Chawanakee Community,
I was shocked and saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas yesterday. I share in the heartbreak and feel for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.
School should and must be a place where students and staff feel completely safe and secure. As an added precaution, the District is working with the Madera County Sheriff to have an increased officer presence in and around our buildings for the rest of the year. Our School Resource Deputy, Deputy Lewis is in close communication with site and district leaders as well.
I know that children, teens and staff will process this news in different ways. Our school counselors, school psychologists, and behaviorists are available at each of our schools to assist students and staff who may need some extra support. In the spirit of, "see something, say something", I strongly encourage students and staff to reach out to our support staff. For those who want to remain anonymous, as a reminder, the Stay Safe. Speak Up! app is constantly being monitored.
Please join me in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in our thoughts at this time.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcy Guthrie, Superintendent
